Noisy's Derbarl Yerrigan racing maps

Posted November 30 2019

Do you get lost on the Swan River? The place the locals have called Derbarl Yerrigan
for thousands of years. Well if you'd like a map? Here's a freeby I've designed for you.

Derbarl Yerrigan racing maps

For ages Western Australian yachting have been using a map done by Mr Green to fins their war around weekend race courses. This is all well and good for folk who can see without glasses. But I'm long sighted now my age is progressing. So looking at anything that is not in large print is just not a thing on our boat. So I've spent some time designing a new graphic for us to print out, laminate and navigate by. It fits on both sides of an A4 sheet. Side A being the western half. Side B the east.
Sail!!

As it seemed like a good idea at the time I've also included numeral pennants, some of the main start codes and some other guff. Print this out to to your hearts content. Or, if you like shiny. Go to Office Worst and have it printed on both sides of a sheet of 200gsm A4 and then get them to laminate it. Then you can draw the courses on the laminate each week and wipe it off with some spirits (we use gin) ready for next weeks race.

The Rugby World Cup 2019.

The Rugby world cup is underway.. Here's my thoughts on the 2nd last game

The Rugby World Cup 2019.
The thing that differentiates the Rugby World Cup from most of the other football world cups is it's more about playing the game and less about the final result. Sure, there are two or three teams that have rocked up to win. But for the vast majority of nations it's about exceeding expectations. Uruguay besting Fiji this week will be a massive highlight for many rugby fans regardless of who they follow.

But in all this excitement there is always one flat spot. The second last game. The playoff for third place. Nearly no other competition has this format. You win your semi final and go on to try to be top dog. Not the best of the nearlys.. Such an anticlimax for all involved.

How ever at the bottom of each pool is a nation who can reasonably be expected to possibly not win a game at all. I wonder if this 2nd last game should be a Minor Final between the two best of these? The tournament organizers should look at the points difference (for/against) of the bottom seeded nation in each pool. These teams would play a sort of Fattest Minnow final.

This would really give these minnow nations something extra to play for in the pool stages. At the moment all they can really try to do is see if they can cause an upset. This is actually a great goal. But giving the 4 of them a chance at a special final would really be something extra.

It was time to do some more coding..

I'm not a coder. Though I do enjoy haviong a crack at it. It's one of my many hobbies. Is it possible to have too many hobies and interests? I hopoe it's not, as I'm continually finding new things to enjoy and ponder. I'd hate to wake one day and found I'd tried all the flavours of ice cream.

But every now and again you need to rediscover vanilla, or chocolate (your call). This is were my brain was at with my web site this month. It was brought about by a cool CSS tutorial I found on youtube. I watched it and though "That was cool, I shouild write some code and apply that.the problem was It wouldf totally not fit in with my old web site. I coded it some years back, so that's undistandible.

Anyway I was planning to start the partymeeple game marketing thing so it made sence to do a bit of a refreasher on my old page as a way of remembering CSS and it's budies. At this time there is really no point to this site other than it hosts the Rugby World Cup and MotoGP competitions my buddies and I have. But that my change.
